Darfur..in the hands of "celebrity diplomacy". Clooney and Cheadle win 2007 Peace Summit Award. Department of State remains silent

It's amazing...as BushCO follows their path of "cowboy diplomacy" in the Middle East in their quest for "blood oil", Genocide is occurring in the Sudan. Left with NO foreign policy "experts" due to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the all encompassing "war on terror",the U.S. has been forced to go with "celebrity diplomacy" for Africa. From Madonna, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Don Cheadle, Oprah, et all, our African foreign policy is lacking in Washington, but thriving in Hollywood.

Dec 13 - Hollywood stars George Clooney and Don Cheadle have received the 2007 Peace Summit Award for their efforts to bring peace to Darfur.

The actors were presented with the award by former Soviet President and Nobel Peace Prize winner Mikhail Gorbachev.

Clooney and Cheadle have both made trips to Darfur in the past two years and spoken with government leaders about the humanitarian crisis in the region.

As Clooney states,

"The Simple truth is that when it comes to the atrocities in Darfur. Those people are no better off now as then they were years ago. The murders continue, the rapes continue and some 2.5 million refugees have yet to go home...and when they write about this the question will be asked...Where was the rest of the world and the answer will be...it just wasn't a priority. "I am the son of and journalist and I understand that Freedom of Speech doesn't give you the right to run into a crowed theater and yell "FIRE" unless of course there is one. And there is a FIRE."

Sadly enough, we are lucky we have Hollywood..otherwise we wouldn't have DIPLOMACY in Africa. We'd be left with Wolfowitz and his wild ideas about Africa. (we already saw what is "ideas" did to Iraq...should we allow him to be "planning" for Africa?).

Sad. The United States has been reduced to "celebrity diplomacy" and Sub "machine gun" contractors as our Foreign Policy throughout the world. Blood Oil..rules the day....all in the name of "national security".

Anyways..Good job, George. Good job, Don. Thanks for doing the Department of State's job. Someone has to.

Upon reading this article on buzzflash.net my mind wandered into the netherworld. You've been warned.

The most powerful nations in the world have given a raised middle finger to Africa. They've decided that Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Madonna, George Clooney, and Leo DiCaprio are, good enough, 'conciliatory' ambassadors for the the western world to the continent of Africa..and to a lessor extent, the planet.

Hell, Ted Turner is paying down the United States neglected/past UN dues..it's way too much money..I can't remember how much, but I'm sure it's enough to feed, clothe, and shelter every homeless individual in America.

The 'tanks' are running on Empty. Is 'celebrity diplomacy' and sub ' machine gun' contractors all the Bush Cabal have left in their arsenal of foreign policy/diplomacy? This lame duck administration is rapidly becoming even more pathetic. Richard Armitage said it best,

"We're playing foreign policy at the moment like five-year- olds play soccer, everyone is going after the ball at once rather than cover the whole field...Right now, we're just so preoccupied with Iraq that we're ignoring Asia totally."

The world watches as genocide is being committed in the Sudan and the world's ONLY HEGEMON sits idly by and dismisses it for 'blood oil'. We are all being screwed...deceived. The horrid Iraq/n debacle is cannibalizing all our so called 'experts'. The worse is yet to come. More will be devoured after the Petraeus 'ASSESSMENT' is delivered by either former, current, or past deputies of PNAC members.

What's that they say...'Birds of a feather flock together'. Well, prepare for the unified 'wings' to flap. Partynut said it best, Gen. "BetrayUS", will become the current fall guy.

But who exactly do the wings consist of? Is the next, soon to be 'fall guy' , what's his name, Gen. Bergner, or some crap like that. You know...the guy, the 'good ol' boy' who for the longest time was the MILITARY DEPUTY liaison of ELLIOTT ABRAMS, a leading neocon 'pseudo brilliant, corruptive, subversive mind', or as FOX news calls them..experts. Bergner's recent assignment to Iraq seems Bush/Cheney/Machiavellian to me. It's my assumption that Bergner's hand prints will be all over the Petraeus Pre-assessment-ASSESSMENT-Sept.'surge' Report before, we the people, actually receive it. I'm sure it will be 'fair and balanced'.

Oh yeah, Abrams is also a signature of that horrible piece of 'preemptive' crap called PNAC. Bergner 's presence in Iraq will undoubtedly have had a prominent voice in 'BetrayUs's assessment.

Has Blackwater USA entered Darfur?

After four years of genocide in the Darfur region of the Sudan, the United Nations has decided to enter the fight to halt the senseless killings. Late in the night, the UN Security Council along with the UK, co-sponsored a resolution to create a 'hybrid' UN force. Comprised of roughly 20,000 'soldiers' and 6 ,ooo 'civilian police'. Are these police Blackwater USA?

Blackwater has long eyed doing business with the UN in the Sudan. They see the Iraq war winding down and are looking for more opportunities for expansion and the continuation of their 'soldier of fortune' corporate business plan. Chris Taylor, head of strategy for Blackwater, stated in 2006 that

"(his company) has a database of thousands of former police and military officers for security assignments...Blackwater personnel could set up perimeters and guard Darfurian villages and refugee camp in support of the U.N."

"There are a lot of crises in the world...so if they can get their foot in the door, it potentially opens up an entire new business sector" stated Peter Singer of the Brookings Institution.

Blackwater USA's previous acknowledgment of wanting to pursue doing 'business' with the UN in the Sudan leads to an eerie suspicion that they are part of this new 'hybrid' force. Although billed by the UN and British officials, the new hybrid force will have a 'predominantly African character'. What does that mean? Are they going to hire the rebels for cheap...Peruvians, Chileans, Fijians...Malyasians...Who? Triple Canopy Inc. has done the same in Iraq and worse.....they've had the contract to guard the Green Zone since 2005, not the U.S. or British military.

"If Sudan does not comply with this resolution, the United States will move for the swift adoption of unilateral and multilateral measures...now Sudan faces a choice. Sudan can choose the path of co-operation or defiance." stated Zalmay Khalilizad, US Ambassador to the UN, former US Ambassador to Afghanistan, former US Ambassador to Iraq, the infamous double source for the Office of the VP and the Pentagon in the prewar intelligence Debacle, Original PNAC member, CFR member, architect of Afghan Mujaheddin policies (Osama's long time buddy).

Where are these soldiers and police coming from? Who is paying who for what contract? Is the Darfur going to become the 'new Iraq' for privately funded sub 'machine gun' contractors?

Luckily the House of Representatives have learned a little since the days of 'no bid contract Iraq'. In an attempt to keep a tab on U.S. corporations participating in the Darfur resolution force, the House passed the Sudan Accountability and Divestment Act(H.R. 180) on Monday. H.R. 180 reads

"....require the identification of companies that conduct business operations in Sudan, to prohibit United States Government contracts with such companies, and for other purposes."

Let US hope the language stays the same.

Privately funded armies are a danger to the United States and the world. Trillions of dollars are spent worldwide on the proliferation of war by nations. We do not need contractors to do the bidding of nations who seek to maximize their profits and minimize their losses. We must not forget that corporate greed and lax oversight gave US Enron, Arthur Andersen, Haliburton, Qwest, Tyco, World Com, and countless other scandoulus companies. Do we really need to risk adding Blackwater USA, DynCorp, and Triple Canopy Inc. to this list. That day nears. Watch the Darfur force unfold...Blackwater USA shall soon appear as a new 'hybrid' force with a 'predominantly African character'.

The cause is noble..but does the means justify the ends. Shouldn't the US be fighting this battle. Is genocide not a cause for US...or is it because China has most of the oil claims to the region, leaving US to fight for 'blood oil' in the Middle East.
