Haunting Rumsfeld: Complaint filed in France against Rummey for "war crimes"

"We know that we can't get him into prison right now, but it would be great to make sure that he couldn't safely leave the U.S. anymore" Michael Ratner, president of the Center for Constitutional Rights.
Rummey can run from his past crimes, but he can't hide.

Excerpts from IHT
American and European rights groups filed a legal complaint in France accusing former U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld of responsibility for torture in Iraq and at the U.S. military prison in Guantanamo Bay, the groups said Friday.
The New York-based Center for Constitutional Rights, the Berlin-based European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights and two Paris-based groups, the International Federation of Human Rights and the League of Human Rights, said they filed the complaint with the Paris prosecutor's office as Rumsfeld arrived in France for a visit. (a proper greeting for a War Criminal)

The groups say their complaint could go forward because people suspected of torture can be prosecuted in France if they are on French soil.

The complaint says Rumsfeld, in his former position as defense secretary, "authorized and ordered crimes of torture to be carried out ... as well as other war crimes."

Filed Thursday, the complaint cites various documents, including memos from Rumsfeld, internal reports and testimony from former U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Janis Karpinski — the one-time commander of U.S. military prisons in Iraq — to bolster its claims. It asks the prosecutor to open an inquiry and take Rumsfeld into custody. IHT
No more Freedom Fries for Rummey. Michael Ratner et al, have been trying their hardest to make sure the ciminals in BUSHCO meet their proper justice. All they need now is a willing ear. Will France, be the ear? Probably not, Freedom Fry Bush loving Sarkozy will make sure the "case" disappears as it did in Germany in April.
German federal prosecutors rejected that request in April, saying it was up to the U.S. to hold any inquiry.

Ratner said his group had tried to take the case to European courts because "no one (in the United States), not even the Congress, is ready to investigate the torture program," and because the case could not be brought with the International Criminal Court, as the United States is not a member. IHT
Sissies..Covering up for BushCO crimes. Remember BushCO....it's 60 years after WWII and the world still hasn't forgot the crimes against humanity that the Nazi's caused. To this day they are continually "hunted" ..as will be the case with all of you. One day, we will get our justice, too. Criminals. All of them.

Sarkozy's wife had enough of the French President...Announces DIVORCE

"I don't see myself as a first lady. It bores me. I'm not politically correct" Cecilia Sarkozy in 2005
French President Nicolas Sarkozy once stated, his wife is "the only non-negotiable part" of his career. Ooops, everything is negoiable and he just found out. Cecilia Sarkozy decided she had enough of Nicolas' crap and has decided to call it quits after 11 years of marriage. Excerpts from Reuters

"Cecilia and Nicolas Sarkozy have announced their separation by mutual consent. They will not be making any comment," the statement said, giving no further information.

The French media reported earlier this week that the pair secretly saw a judge on Monday to formalise their split, but some experts have said Sarkozy cannot legally get divorced because as president he has immunity from all judicial actions.

....

Sarkozy's spokesman announced earlier in the day that the pair were separating, but hours later clarified the statement to make clear they had "divorced by mutual consent".

The couple's lawyer said they had already seen a judge to formalise the split and agreed financial terms.

"There was no problem, they resolved everything amicably," lawyer Michele Cahen told Europe 1 radio.

Of course he saw it coming, though. After all,
they both had affairs and briefly lived apart in 2005
and....
Cecilia played no public part in her husband's election campaign this year, did not vote for him in the second round and only appeared fleetingly alongside him at three public engagements since his May victory -- the last time in July.

Ouch..it has to hurt a little bit when you're the President of France and your wife won't even vote for your re election.

ARE you Kidding? France recieves contract for Nuclear Power plant in Libya

This one blows my mind. Here we go.

The entire world is in upheaval over the 'nuclear option'. Iran, North Korea, Pakistan, India, Syria, China..everyone is in on it. But here is what's odd. We all agree whether it is for electrical purposes, desalination, or for weaponisation...Nuclear capabilities still prove to be the answer of last resort. Solar, wind, thermal...anything besides nuclear.

Yet we press on..and France is as close to the forefront in nuclear technology as anyone. A French company was just awarded the contract to build the new steel cover over Chernobyl and now we find out that another French based company Areva sealed a deal with Libya to build a nuclear power plant.
During a visit to Libya by French President Nicolas Sarkozy in late July, the leaders signed a memorandum of understanding that would allow French nuclear-giant Areva to build a nuclear power plant there [Libya].

from another article, the Germans weigh in...

Reinhard Buetikofer, accused Sarkozy of "reckless, nationalistic activism" and called the deal "highly questionable in security policy terms."

The Gadhafi regime gave up its nuclear weapons program only four years ago. The deal comes just days after Libya released five Bulgarian nurses and one Palestinian doctor accused of deliberately infecting several hundred children with HIV.

That's right. France is building a nuclear desalination plant for Muammar Gaddafi. France the country of who just publicly warned Iran with bombardment about her pursuit of 'nuclear intentions' is providing assistance to a country who only four years ago was part of the 'extended' axis of evil, Libya. France..Freedom fries..France.

I find this appalling. The man who Reagan hit with air strikes in 1986, gave us Lockerbie, had ACTUAL WMD stockpiles has became part of the 'crew'.

Our enemies from yesterday are our BFF today. Is four years of being the obedient step child of the west long enough? I don't believe so.

The war of terror continues to make odd bedfellows.
